Part of an urban renewal program, City Flats purchases buildings in the historic district which are in the worst condition and renovates, updates them top to bottom, inside and out, creating beautiful and affordable condominiums. This client was one of the first people to move into this gentrification project and the small patch of dirt needed to be spruced up.  After completion, her unit was used as a model of how to beautify the landscape to match the building beautification.  Her particular condo is the bottom floor of a circa 1640 house.

My condo is one of two in a historic home from 1640. The problem was that the house had no outdoor landscaping. Enter Margaret Wilmerding. Within a six hour period, my soil had been dug up, replaced with new soil and compost, and a robust garden transformed by late afternoon. Margaret knows every plant’s pedigree. With our unusually warm fall, the garden lasted to November and it was my favorite house warming ‘gift.’ Margaret, as well as her gardens are delightful!
