Historic North Carolina Inn
This historic Inn from 1768 had stood empty for 8 years when the new owners purchased it a few years ago and opened a high end restaurant as well as reopened the inn. As part of the famous historic district, the gardens needed to be restored to their former glory all while dealing with the realities of being on the waterfront in a coastal town – salt water, hurricanes, very high water table. Only very specific plants can survive and thrive yet be decorative and beautiful enough to pass the Historic Planning Board. The solution was natives and tough yet beautiful cultivars, planted back near the house where they would receive some protection. With the new restaurant opening, an herb garden with edible flowers was added to the rear patio with easy access to the kitchen.
